Orangutan Rehabilitation Center at Camp Leakey, Tanjung Puting, South Borneo or South Kalimantan island. Indonesia has 2 orangutans habitats, one is here at Camp Leakey and one is in North Sumatra at Bohorok, Leuser National Park. Orangutans at Camp Leakey is the last post of the primate that need our real attention. Camp Leakey is the research center of Orangutan rehabilitation program to where usually visitors go directly from Pangkalan Bun, the entry town of southern part of South Kalimantan which is accessible from Semarang city the capital of Central Java. As a tour program other destination beside Camp Leakey, are visited also Pondok Tanggui station for young Orangutan or Orphane Orangutans, and the gold mining. There are another more quieter rehabilitation station at Tanjung Harapan. It is known that Orangutan habitat are only in North Sumatra and Central Borneo outside Africa. The rehabilitation center of Orangutan in North Sumatra is at Bohorok, around 90 kms North West of Medan city. A researcher from Canada Dr. Birute Galdikas is one who has made an extensive study about orangutans both at Camp Leakey and North Sumatra and published about Orangutan in Camp Leakey of Tanjung Puting National Park. She started to visit and worked in 1970s at Camp Leakey and found that the Orangutan can give birth only every 8 years.

OrangutansBorneo island is the biggest island in Indonesia with 2/3 belong to Indonesia, and this part of Borneo is splited into 3 countries Borneo Malaysia, Borneo Brunei Darussalam, and Borneo Indonesia. The kingdom of Brunei Darussalam is the most prosperous countries among those 3 partitions due to it's natural oil mining. The original population of Borneo is called Dayak although among them the term is not used. In the beginning, there were 3 kingdoms known in Borneo island, one the oldest was Kutai in East Borneo, Banjar ( now Banjarmasin ) on South Borneo, and Brunei ( now Brunei Darussalam ) on north coast of Borneo. All the 3 centers of kingdoms in Borneo have converted into Islam, but most of countryside are still follow local tradition Hindu or Hindu Kaharingan belief. Kutai was Hindu kingdom built in 4th century proved by the inscription carved on pillars called " Yupa ". The finding of these inscriptions brought Indonesia to enter historical stage.

OrangutansThe main products of Borneo are wood or timber with the center of trade is Banjarmasin, South Borneo and oil mining on east Borneo with bustling city of Balikpapan. Today Balikpapan can be said as the air entry of Borneo, since by land transport is still not yet developed. Most people using river as the main transport route, so they settle along the rivers of Kapuas, Barito and Mahakam. Borneo is the less visited island by tourist, so it's nature and culture are still untouched by various Western style. The most interesting places for visitor to Borneo are probably 3, those are Tanjung Puting National Park on central Borneo, Banjarmasin on South Borneo, and Mahakam river on east Borneo. Tanjung Puting is well known with Camp Leakey, the center of Orangutan rehabilitation center.
