>DAY 01 Maumere
On arrival at "Frans Seda" Airport of Maumere in Flores, our guide will meet you and transfer to Flores Sao Resort for accommodation and meals.
DAY 02 Maumere - Larantuka - Lewoleba ( Lembata )
Breakfast at hotel. Drive 127 km (4 hours drive) to Larantuka, a small town on the Eastern tip of Flores Island through villages, coconut plantation, rivers, hills, and jungles. It is a beautiful scenery. On arrival direct to a local restaurant for having lunch, then transfer to the pier for boarding on a wooden boat to cruise to Lewoleba - Lembata/Lomblen Island. Accommodation and meals at LOSMEN REJEKI - Lewoleba.
DAY 03 Lewoleba - Lamalera
Breakfast at hotel. Transfer to the pier to depart for Lamalera - a village of Whale-Hunters in the South of the Island. On arrival join with the Whale hunter, if you may be lucky you will see muscular harpooners chasing the whale using the wooden canoe called "Pledang" in which its sail is made of palm leaves. Accommodation and meals at villagers' houses in Lamalera.
DAY 04 Lamalera - Lewoleba
After having breakfast having another opportunity to observe the whale hunting activities learn their ways of hunting, customs and listening to their stories of conducting whale hunting. After lunch boating back to Lewoleba. Accommodation and meals at LOSMEN REJEKI or similar.
DAY 05 Lewoleba - Larantuka - Maumere
Breakfast at hotel. Cruise back to Larantuka. On arrival direct drive to Maumere. Accommodation and meals at Flores Sao Resort
DAY 06 Departure
Breakfast at hotel. Transfer to the Airport to depart for next destination.
The best start of the expedition is from Denpasar, Bali. Take short stop in Denpasar
then fly to Flores island, continue by land transport to the most estern tip of the island, Larantuka, the most important town for the Christian missionaries in Indonesia, and is considered one of the oldest. On the east of Flores there are dozens of small island already habited or non habited. Two island well known for their risk husting of whale that come every year. One whale would enough for their life of almost months as meat and oil. They believe that a whale if it will be the catch of the people it will stay close to the beach and will no away for long time to wait the people to catch. During the battle of catch and flight, it seems that the whale does not seriously avoiding the attack, if it will, it must be very easy to drag their small and subtle wooden boat.
East Nusa Tenggara is located in transition area from Asia to Australia and Micronesia that make the place geographically, ethnically and culturally different from other areas of Indonesia. The island of East Nusa Tenggara are a part of Mountain chain which begins from north Sumatra stretching across Java toward the east. The rainfall varies between 50 mm and 200 mm a year with temperature between 30oC to 35oC in the very hot coastal area, and from 15oC to 17oC in the very cool mountainous area. The province of East Nusa Tenggara comprises of 566 islands with 3 main islands are Flores, Sumba and Timor. Flores is the longest island located between Sumbawa and Timor.
