Banjar Nungnung is located at the area of Perbekelan Pelaga, Kecamatan Petang, Kabupaten Badung. A location 40 kms from Denpasar city with very good road, and beautiful views driving up after the ton of Petang. One will pass rice terraces, plantations, and traditional villages where very view foreign travelers touching the area. Close to the foot of Mt. Mangu, at the back of Lake Beratan with an altitude of around 800 to 1000 meters above sea level.
See the route from Denpasar to Pelaga what one can see on the way is quiet many thinks, from Mambal or Blahkiuh traditional market which is not less interesting compared to Badung market, Sangeh monkey forest, Nungnung waterfall and Tukat Bangkung high bridge which very popular sightseeing for local people of Bali during important holidays, and a place where it is often organized local farming product exhibition. A bit further north not more then 2 km is the Bagus Agro resort, where one can see various short live farming with deluxe accommodations, and a perfect place to organize unique evening event such as dinner with direct harvesting and cooking at the resort, or processing fruit juices at the place and other activities. The views from here is marvelous, to the east is vast panorama to Kintamani ridges with Mt. Agung as background, as between Pelaga and Kintamani ridge in the middle is low land, the same case to the west direction a vast view of Batukaru mountain, so here there will be morning and evening beautiful panoramas. Around 2 kms further north is one of the biggest temple of Bali, the Mount Mangu temple, built around the turn of 18th century after Mengwi kindom was defeated by Buleleng and their Ulun Danu at lake Beratan was confiscated. Mountain trekking can be also organized at 2 places that is from the side of the temple namely from Banjar Tinggaan or from Banjar Semanik. That from Banjar Semanik will come out at Beratan Lake or Bedudul, while if it is from Tinggaan one has to back again the starting point.
Nungnung is traditional village, but can not be said totally so, as most of their houses and constructions are modern, only the spirit and environment can be said still traditional. In around the year 1100 AD the name of this village has been recorded at one of the king charters containing the information about temple of Gelang-gelang which is now the temple with the same name with a bit modification of Gegelang just on the side of the road leading to the waterfall. There are 2 villages nearby with the same name, one is the older Nungnung and the new Nungnung around Gegelang temple. The waterfall is the current of Tukad Bangkung with around 30 meter falls and 400 meters path to reach with steps. The path to the closest place to the fall is extreme elevation, can be around 60 degrees. So it will be a kind of adventurous walk to every one. With the careful construction of the paths and minimum safety guide line one has still be cautious as the steps often grows moats, especially during rainy seasons. This waterall is the biggest volume of fall in Bali causing strong water sprays and fogs around the valley. A real adventure and magic impression.
