Air Sanih, in local name Yeh Sanih, is swimming pool, 2 swimming pools on the beach of of Yeh Sanih traditional village, located 17 km from Singaraja city. So the name refers both the pools and traditional village on the area. The original name is Yeh Sanih meaning bland water, originated from big water spring which is probably under soil river. This big spring has been protected since long time, probably since the ancient kingdom of Bali and declared as sacred place with a temple constructed in the site. That is why any ritual at the surrounding villages will take it as sacred water. The place is far from Denpasar or Kuta, and to reach the place one has to driver through the city of Singaraja to cover 107 kms or via Kintamani or east shore of Bali which is much more longer distance. People only know without record that this natural spring has become place of recreation since 1930 which was probably when Dutch settled in Singaraja and made the city as the basis of their colony on the island and east Nusa Tenggara.
One found an old script written in pam leaves named Besa Mejajar say that Yeh Sanih words originated from Ersania meaning south east, and during the kingdom of Bulian this water spring was a park and sacred water. The kingdom ordered 20 persons to guard the site, and these officers who settled the area then called the member of of Linggih in the current structure of officials within traditional village of Yeh Sanih. Today the number remains only 16 members according to the written regulation of the village. The claim of the chronic is not certain, as in all traditional villages of Bali which is called Desa has almost the same concept on land ownership and obligation towards natural and religious heritages, nothing come from the king whoever his/her majesty was. But it was often that the king reconfirmed the status and during his/her visit or emissaries by issuing a document that the king acknowledge the status. The attention by the palace on this water spring might be much older then the era called unclear Bulian kingdom, as there are many ancient villages around the area such as Julah and Sembiran which are to often mentioned by palace charters since 10th century.
Today the natural water spring that have been constructed with paths, walls and better zoning has become regular recreation site for mostly people from Singaraja city and the surrounding, especially during week end and holidays. There is a believe that if young couple visit the site for recreation their relation will be stronger getting the spirit from the beauty of the site.
During Id Ul Fitr holiday Moslem who live in Singaraja and surrounding use this park as annual informal meeting each other and the Hindu since long time ago, yet today is not only during Lebaran holiday but almost everyday or week end. As long as the knowledge of religion among our people is still not enough this place would be a good place to keep the harmony among people with different religion. Eveyone hope this park is one of the site that can form the nationality spirit at least in one part of Bali.
