Lovina beach, is a quiet romantic name for the beach that is far from town very quiet and calm sea, arising a total serenity for every one who standing or sitting facing on the beach. This is correct of 70 years ago when I Gusti Panji Tisna, one of prose who wrote Sukreni Gadis Bali. He buult small bungalows in 1953 with the name Lovina after his return from travelling Europe and Asia. In Indonesia literature he is classified as the writers of New Prose generation, a new strugle for women to get their new fate under strong hegemony of tradition. With the born of Sukreni Gadis Bali, the name of Lovina beach also known by readers within the country and other part of the world, which is far before north Bali developed into tourist destination.
Starting 1970s one by one beside Livina bungalows which was renamed Mutiara bungalows also contructed various small bungalow along the beach. Profited with the interest of European travellers who love to stay at quiet places far from the city Lovina become overnight package organized by tour operator. The name of Lovina always appear at the tour itineray named Bali round trip. There were groups, individuals, honeymooners, and various families at least staying in Lovina for 2 nights as the variation of their holiday in Bali with the base on south Bali towns.
Exactly the location of Lovina beach is around 15 km west of current Singaraja city the second biggest city in Bali, stretches along 5 kms with black sand beach and calm sea waves. It is not only Lovina beach is dotted with various accommodations but further west up to the area of Pemuteran bording with West Bali National Park. Between the beach and mountain chaine of west Bali is rugged land with very narrow plain where people can grow rice. On the mountaneous land there are various plantation such as coffee, cacao and cloves. Due to difficulty of water some farmers grow local wines which was reached its peak during 1990s, especially the area along traditional village of Kalibukbuk up to the west of Lovina.
In 1976 north west Bali was damaged by earth quake of 7.6 RS, including some hotels and bungalows, even the town of Seririt the biggest town on north west Bali reported experienced total damage with number of victims more then 500 persons. Not long after that the town of Seririt again standing proudly as if nothing happened as what we can see today.
Other interesting places nearby Lovina beach are among others, Menjangan Island is one of the best site in Indonesia for scuba diving, very clear water good amount of fish variation, and soft and stable currents. Dolphine play ground, every morning starting 05.00 dozens of dolphine dancing on the sea of Lovina. The dancing of dolphine has attracted many travellers to watch them in early morning. West Bali Barat national park, is the only national park with native bird in Bali known as Bali starling. This bird is almot extinct, if not a private effort done by one of Balinese to grow it in Nusa Penida, where it is now abundant more then its original habitat.
